The information kiosk (also known informally as the "propaganda machine")
at the entrance to the Institute of Neuroinformatics is designed to
provide information to staff and visitors as they walk past.
At the moment the kiosk is based on a 106cm TFT LCD display. It shows
animated information slides about the work of the institute, a calendar
of upcoming events, a message-of-the-day faciliy, a clock and a "real-time"
weather display (or at least as real-time as the weather bureau updates it).
The display is connected to the adaptive building intelligence
(ABI) system so that
a screen saver activates when nobody is standing in front of the screen
for a certain amount of time.
As time goes on it will be extended to include interactive features that
will showcase some of the technologies being developed at the institute.
